A question for the Marines....
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. Post subject: A question for the Marines....

...came in via email...would like to help Pawel out with an answer...what's the consensus?

" I'm beginning to build a model of the LVTP-5 and I wonder what color it should be painted. Were the Marines vehicles painted different shade of olive drab than the Army vehicles? I already had it figured out with the army, I took an old ammo case for my example of 34087 color. What color should a Marines machine be and are there some papers which regulate it? The standard color for all USMC tactical vehicles of that era was USMC forest green. This color was a little darker the the armys green but the forest green over time would "wash-out" to a powdery green...because of this vehicle crews and drivers would do a "green wash", this is USMC forest green cut with a one to one mix of gasoline and applied with a rag to freshen up the paint on their vehicle..like before a IG or CG inspection or for a "piss-in your-shoe" Dog and Pony show.
Note: a little history for you no-jarheads...I was in a unit in 1964 that spray painted the grass in front of its buildings with USMC green because it had turned brown just before a IG inspection.
