Microsoft rolls out SP1 for Windows Vista and SP3 for Windows XP

Microsoft is hard at work on Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows Vista.
Microsoft's latest consumer operating system launched in November and is expected to be used by over 200 million people before the end of 2007.

^^^^^ Laughing ^^^^^

Hey been meaning to comment somewhere like in the software forum that our younger son (14) installed Vista Home Premium by himself two weekends ago - his 'puter came with a certificate for a free upgrade and it arrived a while back but I told him to hold off and be careful - and I gotta say it looked like it went smooth as silk and strangely enough, looks very nice. Real nice as a matter of fact.

Oddly enough it also seems to have eliminated a contention issue between some background process in XP (Media Edition, and bone-stock as deliverd at that) and one of his programs he runs all the time, that was leading to sporadic lockups and reboots. He was using SmartClose in XP to get around it (which ID'ed the issue as process-related, but the lazy kid didn't want to chase it down farther, although we'd already done reinstalls to be sure it wasn't an install issue) and now doesn't have to do that at all. His stuff just works. The lil' smartypants has me thinkin' twice now.....

I'd also read a rumor somewhere (think it was another major flight sim forum) about MS not shipping a service pack for Vista until way late in 2008 or more.....looks to have been unfounded criticism now.

That may have been from me.
We been getting info into BYO about press saying it wouldn't be ready until 2009.
Although this is only a beta release at this stage and look how long it took 'em to get Vista itself out and they still screwed that up.

I'm getting problems with a lot of stuff on Vista;
The main ones are my old PhotoShop CS won't work in it (although ImageReady does); Norton Internet Security 2007 (although this has now been patched, it's too late for me coz I had to get 360 so I could use it); and my FFB2 is recognised but I can't run the software to set up any macro's in it.
I've had to buy some new hardware as well:- USB adapter; ethernet adapter; router (which still wouldn't work).

The main reason I built this one was for audio.
One program runs really well in Vista (much better than XP), but another won't and the developer doesn't even know when the patch will be released, and that's if they decide to patch it.

In short, I'm still upgrading back to XP so I can actually use my p.c.

lol nearly, I'm going to try and set up a dual boot.
If it still isn't working I'll scrap Vista altogether and go back to XP until I hear they've patched it well enough to use properly.

It does actually work for what I intended but, as my intended 2nd p.c. blew up altogether I'm having to use it for more and that's the stuff that doesn't work on it.

P.C's! Who'd have one?

Cool

Yeah well I thought I heard that somewhere....and I guess it's still correct in that a patch does not a Service Pack make.
