REDMOND OREGON M-60A3
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I believe thats an A3 because of the windage sensor right???

Did you happen to get an SN off the tow lug?

....Oh Neil, its more commonly known as a 'wind Sensor' but not trying to split hair's here.

Note Gun tube: -A3 has thermal shroud which is usually more easily visible than wind sensor. Its a dead giveaway. Mr. Green

If they were still fitted maybe... I prefer the MBSGD mounts.

Cool

Multi-Banked Smoke Grenade Discharge mounts???

If that's the acronym they fitted the M239's (L8A1 discharger I believe) on M60A1's too Mr. Green .

Only on the M60A1 AOS and how many of them have you seen around? Besides didn't the AOS have that small cast cover on the glacis behind the lhs headlight cluster?

Too many earlier versions of the M60A1 series were retrofitted with the smoke grenade launchers for it to be a definitive identifier of the "A3".

Splitting hairs even more, it is a Crosswind Sensor.

Here's a photo some just posted in the NTC Desert Guard thread. Clearly an A1 (search light, open range finder blister, no thermal shroud) and clearly has grenade launchers.

This was the last rotation for M60A1's at NTC, in the summer of 87. They were in horrible shape. Look at the condition of the tracks!
