German M60A3?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Ran across this picture. Looks like German searchlight and track. Did the Germans buy or test the M60A3?

The only German M60 I am aware of is the one at Munster and that is a plain M60, IIRC. Could be Austrian, I think they upgraded theirs and changed the searchlight in the process, I don't remember what the Spanish did to theirs.

Did a quick check in my files, the Spanish M60A3E look different, so it's 99% Austrian.

Yep,

that's probably the one, although it had a semi-correct MERDC scheme the last time I saw it. It was not in evidence this past spring, apparently it is scheduled for maintenance/touch-ups/repaint.

Apart from a few exhibits, all vehicles at Munster have either been used or trialled by German forces at one time.

Mark,
Austrians originally had M60A1's. They were one of, if not the first Foreign sales for the M60, getting theirs in the 60's. When the M60A3 came out they bought a bunch of new M60A3 RISE/Passives, deciding they didn't need the TTS. They then upgraded all their A1's to A3 RISE/Passive standard. They eventually became known as M60A3"O" , The "O" having an Umlaut over it and meaning Ostereich. They kept a few after switching to LEO II's for parades and display. IIRC there are at least 3 floating around still, the rest were sold off to either Egypt or Morrocco. If my plans go well I might get to check one out in a year Wink .

Mark you have to be carefull about that "German" searchlight. True it is made by a German company, but many of the western european counties used it.

What is the grid on the glacias? I'm guessing it is some kind of anti ATM/RPG device?

I would say these are ice cleats. Could be seen on many vehicles (Leo tanks, Marder IFVs,...) Obviously for replacing "flat" rubber pads on track links.

Palic is correct. The crew can remove a rubber pad and replace it with an ice cleat.

AFV Club makes a set of Leo 2 tracks that have the ice cleats installed.

That thing on the front galcias is rack that is full of cleats.

Hello from Texas,
It is the smoke dischargers that give it away.
