Tanks in Town !!
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Tanks in Town !!

Hello,

Here you will find some pictures from the last Tanks in Town in Belgium :

Tanks in Town on a Webshots album

As usual, there were plenty of tanks and some very unusual ones. The album starts with a quite uncommon and not very well known tank : the M22 Locust.

The M22 shown on this album is owned by the Royal Tank Museum in Brussels, Belgium. It was restored to running condition by a very good friend of mine, Gregory de Cock, and a team from the Vissenaken Depot. On the following website, you will find a bunch of information regarding the complete restoration of this tank, its story and very relevant information about the M22 tank :

The Locust page

Then you'll see some pics of me with some friends dressed in US camouflaged uniforms, worn by the 2AD 41st Infantry Regiment in Normandy in June-August 1944. I bought this repro from a shop in the USA and I decided to go at Tank in Town with a friend, both of us dressed with the camo tunic. We thought to be the only guys dressed like this, but we were very surprised to see a group of the 2nd Armored Division association, all of them dressed with these very uncommon uniforms. (that's me on the right side)

Then you will see some pictures of recent tanks (Leopard, Pz 68, M114) on move on the Moto-cross field, some of them are quite impressive.

Last but not least, you will see vintage tanks (Shermies, Tank destroyers) moving the last day en route to Mons.

Pierre-Olivier

Thanks for sharing! Those are some great shots of the Locust that you don't see every day. Looks like you guys had a great time!

Looks like fun. I hope the townspeople got as much enjoyment from the presence of dozens and dozens of tank enthousiasts as did the tank enthousiasts enjoy the town and its people.

Ditto on the Locust tank. That is a strange little beast!

I'm not sure that the inhabitants of Mons appreciate this event as much as I do. The reason is that the previous years (last year for sure), some tank drivers didn't really pay attention to what was around them and destroyed some sidewalk borders and road equipments.... this year, the association in charge of this event put them in front of their own responsibilities and said they have to pay for what they spoiled. Some alcohol tests were also done, because last year some guys drove their tank whereas they were drunk...

Infortunately for me, I was not able to assist to the complete parade because I was lacking of time (working the day after).. so one more time I didn't get the chance to sit on a running tank. This will be done until my last day on earth !!!

For Shawn, I didn't wash any vehicle, since my friend and I went there without any military vehicle. We only washed up our shoes and pants... and that's enough for the moment.
