The Australian government is about to start donating Leopard tanks to veteran and historical organizations. Meanwhile, the Finnish acution is Sept 29:

De-commissioned Leopard Tanks will soon be available for gifting to veteran and historical organisations across Australia, as part of the Howard Government’s acquisition of the new Abrams Tanks.

The Leopard tanks entered service in 1977 and have been central to the Australian Army’s armoured warfare capability.

The 59 Abrams Tanks, that will replace the Leopards, are the next generation of technology. The Abrams will be harder to hit. And when the Abrams hit, they will hit harder.

To be eligible for consideration organisations should be able to demonstrate that the tank will be of some historical or cultural significance to them.

Organisations interested in receiving a de-commissioned Leopard Tank should register their interest with the Leopard Disposals Manager, 256-310 St Kilda Road, SOUTHBANK VIC 3006, or phone 03 9282 4162, by Friday, 12 October 2007.

Due to the limited number of tanks available interested organisations are encouraged to register their interest as soon as possible.

Tank Auction

The Finnish Defence Forces will auction off a number of antique tanks at the Siikakangas Depot in Ruovesi, Finland, on Sept. 29.

The vehicles include two British models and one German model dating back to the Second World War:

-- 14 FV 4101 Charioteer Mk VII Model B tanks;
-- Four A34 Comet Mk I Model B tanks; and
-- Three Sturmgeschütz III Ausführung G assault guns.

The auction will be on Sept. 25th and not on Sept. 29 .. I really hope that a French guy, friend of mine, will be able to get at least 1 Stug, because this kind of German tank is quite uncommon in France...
