Post subject: VC question....?

Is it possible to remove an aircrafts Virtual Cockpit? or is it hard-coded into the aircraft?....

If it is possible, how so?

thanks

Hi Mustang !

As far as I know, when in the panel cfg, you can delete the part where the VC is stated or better, make the lines inoperable by adding two forward slashes // in front of all the lines that are related to the VC, then the VC should be gone, I would not delete the file lines as you than don't have a go back to anymore.

I wish ya happy tinkering !! Wink

Shocked

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekk !!

as you made it in the panel.cfg is the way I do it ,
if it does not work at your end there must be something really wrong,
I think the problemo lies somewhere else,
I would propose to:

first restore the original thing
second copy in the panel you wanted to insert, making shure to name the folder panel.alt or anything as long as it says panel dot something

third go in your aircraft.cfg file and edit or better said add the text alt after the panel line, it would look as follows:

[fltsim.0]
title = PT-17 Stearmam - Civilian Colors
sim = PT-17 Stearmam - Civilian Colors
model =
panel = <= this is the standard one
sound =
texture=
kb_checklists= Stearman_check
kb_reference = Stearman_ref
atc_heavy = 0
atc_airline =
atc_flight_number = 520
atc_parking_types = mil_combat
atc_parking_codes =
atc_id=N615JE
atc_id_color=0xffffffff
ui_manufacturer= Stearman
ui_type = PT-17 Kaydet - Civilian
ui_variation = Civilian

[fltsim.1]
title = PT-17 Stearmam - Red Baron
sim = PT-17 Stearmam - Civilian Colors
model =
panel =
sound =
texture=RedBaron
kb_checklists= Stearman_check
kb_reference = Stearman_ref
atc_heavy = 0
atc_airline =
atc_flight_number = 520
atc_parking_types = mil_combat
atc_parking_codes =
atc_id=N615JE
atc_id_color=0xffffffff
ui_manufacturer= Stearman
ui_type = PT-17 Kaydet - Civilian
ui_variation = Red Baron

[fltsim.3]
title = PT-17 Stearmam - Blue
sim = PT-17 Stearmam - Civilian Colors
model =
panel = blue <= this is the alternative way
sound =
texture=blue
kb_checklists= Stearman_check
kb_reference = Stearman_ref
atc_heavy = 0
atc_airline =
atc_flight_number = 520
atc_parking_types = mil_combat
atc_parking_codes =
atc_id=N616JE
atc_id_color=0xffffffff
ui_manufacturer= Stearman
ui_type = PT-17 Kaydet - Civilian
ui_variation = Blue and White

[fltsim.4]
title = PT-17 Stearmam - Gold
sim = PT-17 Stearmam - Civilian Colors
model =
panel =1
sound =
texture=gold
kb_checklists= Stearman_check
kb_reference = Stearman_ref
atc_heavy = 0
atc_airline =
atc_flight_number = 520
atc_parking_types = mil_combat
atc_parking_codes =
atc_id=N615JE
atc_id_color=0xffffffff
ui_manufacturer= Stearman
ui_type = PT-17 Kaydet - Civilian
ui_variation = Gold

or the other way around, rename your original panel to panel.org and then toss in the new one.

In fact it's relatively easy so like adding a new texture you can add panels in the in all sorts and as long as they have a different tag attached and you edit the name in the panel.cfg it works

Also when you like to tinker with panels, there is a very nice program called FS Panel Studio specially tooled for tinkering with panels as well as building complete panels.

Also about the VC still there did you shut off fs9 before tinkering with the file ? because when you edit the file while fs9 still running with the particular aircraft selected , fs9 holds on to the file that was there when the program loaded !

or other alternative, we get on TS and I talk you through it, for that to me that would be later on today, I don't know what the time difference between you and me is

attached a screenie how as example the thing would look like in your aircraft folder

Post subject: Re: VC question....?

The VC is actually part of the model file.

The Exterior model is what you see in spot view; the Interior model contains the VC, cabin, any outside wing/engine views (seen from the VC or 2D panel views), etc.

Though it cannot be removed without the original 3D source files, you can remove the view of it using a hex editor. This is described in some detail over at the AVSIM Design forum.

Eliminating the vcockpit sections from the panel.cfg simply removes the gauges and panel bitmaps if any, not the VC.

Hope this helps.

Cool

Thank you Milton for pointing us in the right direction, I never played around with Hex editors or the likes, so therefore I mentioned the stated above to try and resolve the problem Mustang is having, but the Hex editing thing is out of my league..............maybe need to go back to school for some updating of my grey cells, if there still are any let up there ! Laughing

Again thankx for the support !
