Origins....
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

The things you find on "Youtube" Rolling Eyes

Since only those "of a certain age" (and not many of those) are likely to ever recognize it, there is a meaning to the "nose art" on my old vehicle (and no, it's not an illicit drug reference...I carried the Troop Medic on my vehicle). Those who have seen the movie "Woodstock" will recall that one of the performers was Joan Baez. Not included in the film, but on the soundtrack album was a song performed by herself and a male vocalist but originally performed by The Byrds and Gram Parsons, who wrote it. It was "modified" on the vehicle, as you see, to suit the circumstances. As it has antiwar overtones and KKK references (and my driver was black), we had irony you could cut with a knife....

Well, Jens, the Byrds were hardly classified as country band, but they did a few songs in that idiom as a hoot (and Gene Clark went on to kind of father the country-rock movement with Dillard and Clark which influenced groups like The Eagles, New Riders, Poco, Firefall, etc....). "Chestnut Mare" and "The Ballad of Easy Rider" were typical of what was to come from later bands in the general "sound".

Simon and Garfunkel, yep, guilty as charged- saw them at Offenbach on their reunion world tour (A concert in Central Park?) in, lemme see, 1981 or '82, cost then a whopping 45 Deutsche Mark, up til then the most expensive concert I had ever been too and it was worth every Pfenning and then some.

Yowza, I just realized that was 25 years ago, where did my youth go? Back then I would've pretty much considered someone my age as an almost senior citizen...

In a deparate and probably ultimately vain attempt to drag this thread at least partially on topic by introducing AFV back into the musical equation...here's another G Troop vehicle that decided to adopt a popular music them of the time into their motif. Maybe they couldn't spell or maybe they had a pun of their own in mind, not sure.

I think that TC looks like a guy we used to call "Pop" 'cause he was so old, something like 35, but I have another pic of him on what I thought was another vehicle, so now I'll have to go back and check...
