Origins....
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Origins....

The things you find on "Youtube" Rolling Eyes

Since only those "of a certain age" (and not many of those) are likely to ever recognize it, there is a meaning to the "nose art" on my old vehicle (and no, it's not an illicit drug reference...I carried the Troop Medic on my vehicle). Those who have seen the movie "Woodstock" will recall that one of the performers was Joan Baez. Not included in the film, but on the soundtrack album was a song performed by herself and a male vocalist but originally performed by The Byrds and Gram Parsons, who wrote it. It was "modified" on the vehicle, as you see, to suit the circumstances. As it has antiwar overtones and KKK references (and my driver was black), we had irony you could cut with a knife....
Here are two versions on one page of "Youtube" for your historical listening enjoyment, since you're pretty darn unlikely to ever hear this anywhere else. Wink

www.youtube.com/watch?...ed&search=

And the subject (and the driver..."Golden").....

How's that for "old history", Roy? Mr. Green

So who of you was the all night singer in a country band? Cool

Man, you're digging up some serious memories here, thanks for sharing yours.

Unfortunately, that song remains timeless almost fourty years later... Sad

Hi Doug! Hi Folks!

Was it all really been that long ago?
I still have trouble with the fact that I have been retired for 20 years now and have been working at the same job for just over 13 years.

Sgt, Scouts Out!

Yup, I remember that one. Just yesterday I downloaded another Woodstock song-Goin' Home by 10 Years After. What a lead guitar they had!

Well, Jens, the Byrds were hardly classified as country band, but they did a few songs in that idiom as a hoot (and Gene Clark went on to kind of father the country-rock movement with Dillard and Clark which influenced groups like The Eagles, New Riders, Poco, Firefall, etc....). "Chestnut Mare" and "The Ballad of Easy Rider" were typical of what was to come from later bands in the general "sound".

That was Alvin Lee, Mark, but that was far from their best work. Albums like "A Space In Time" would be hard to beat...check this track listing:

("I'd love to Change the World" is timeless)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUokMbJC3P8

1. One of These Days -
2. Here They Come -
3. I'd Love to Change the World -
4. Over the Hill -
5. Baby Won't You Let Me Rock 'N' Roll You -
6. Once There Was a Time -
7. Let the Sky Fall -
8. Hard Monkeys -
9. I've Been There Too -
10. Uncle Jam [Instrumental] -

Wink

I think "someone I know" might have to post a comment on YouTube about this little twist on the title and it's application to a certain vehicle. Laughing

Ah wuz quotin' the lyrics to that thar song, mah man... Sheesh, I know who the Byrds were and do have some of their works myself- although I admit that "Mr Tambourine Man" is not among my favorite tunes anymore, it has been overplayed.

I confess it zipped over my head at Angels30, as so many things are wont to do these days. My bad.

I'll have to download some Alvin Lee. I get free stuff from Limewire.com It's a good site. You can find any music you want there.

Buzzzzzzzzzz... Mr. Green

Simon and Garfunkel, yep, guilty as charged- saw them at Offenbach on their reunion world tour (A concert in Central Park?) in, lemme see, 1981 or '82, cost then a whopping 45 Deutsche Mark, up til then the most expensive concert I had ever been too and it was worth every Pfenning and then some.

Yowza, I just realized that was 25 years ago, where did my youth go? Back then I would've pretty much considered someone my age as an almost senior citizen...

In a deparate and probably ultimately vain attempt to drag this thread at least partially on topic by introducing AFV back into the musical equation...here's another G Troop vehicle that decided to adopt a popular music them of the time into their motif. Maybe they couldn't spell or maybe they had a pun of their own in mind, not sure.

I think that TC looks like a guy we used to call "Pop" 'cause he was so old, something like 35, but I have another pic of him on what I thought was another vehicle, so now I'll have to go back and check...
