...since it was on last night...I went looking for, and found this:

And here's some trivia...

"The Girl", Laurie Bird, was to be Art Garfunkel's real live girlfriend later. She played Paul Simon's girlfriend in "Annie Hall". Killed herself in Garfunkel's home in '79.

"The Mechanic", Dennis Wilson (a "Beach Boy"), had been friends with Charles Manson and "the family" only three years before (they hung at his home) and this episode affected him the rest of his short life. He was never called to testify at the murder trials.

James Taylor and Dennis Wilson contributed no music to the film.

Ascout believes this is one of the few films that would have been interesting to have been remade, and I would have cast Bruce Springsteen and Mickey Rourke in it somewhere (if it could have been made no later than, say, 1980). The cross country element is ridiculous, of course, for the gearing required for serious drag car, so I'd have made it a series of races at various tracks or something to maintain the plotline. Too bad nobody asked me..... Rolling Eyes
