T26E4 at Cantigny Park
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I finally got to visit Cantigny Park (near Chicago) recently. I had forgotten that there was a T26E4 there and was shocked when I saw that long gun and odd travel lock.

I will try posting a couple pix.

Ah, the only surviving long-barrelled Pershing I am aware of... I wish the turret wasnt facing to the rear though... Thanks for the pics!

It's in Wheaton, a Chicago suburb. Cantigny Park was one of the homes of Robert McCormick, who was a publisher of the Chicago Tribune. He donated the house and grounds to be made into a park for the people of Chicago. The grounds have his mansion, several garden areas and the 1st Division Museum. McCormick commanded an artillery battalion in the 1st Division in WW1 and the experience of the battle of Cantigny led him to name his home "Cantigny Park". The military museum has a number of very nice displays and interacive areas. One can go through 1:1 scale dioramas of a WW1 trench and dugout, Omaha Beach, etc. The Omaha beach is interesting. Behind you are the fronts of landing craft (LCM-sized) and ahead are the bluffs. My favorite is a scene with a (real) M4A3E8 and about five troops plus the tank commander. They are in extemporized winter camo and are set up as if entering a Belgian/German town in early 1945. Nice Sherman. The museum requested no flash photography or I would have glady posted photos of that one too.

Anyway the armor is outside the 1st Division Museum, scattered under the trees.

Admission was $8.00 per carload, which included the tour of the mansion. It is rare that I can find a "tank" museum that hasa heap of stuff that my wife wants to see, but this filled the bill. Only regret was not getting there earlier, but now we both want to go back again!
