Zimmerit coat on the Panther : does it mean that the restoration is close to its ending?

Getting closer. One of the mechanics said they maybe testing the engine this week. I'm hoping to get back there again this Saturday and will hopefully get another update.

Well it would be interesting when you would film (when possible) the engine starting up.
The sound I once heard live from a V12 Maybach is really great.

Regards,
Wim.

I always welcome any updated Ontos Photos. I have a video of the El Monte Ontos taken back in May. With the new paint and emblems, I can always stand a few more.

I'd really love interior shots, as well as SN data from Engine, Transmission, Drivers panel data plate, and Hull stamped SN.

If anyone reading this has the ability to get those...... Wink

Thanks
Don

UPDATE 24OCT07
I've added the following pics to my site:

12 pics of various M2 & M3 Half-track hulks

9 pics of...are you ready Dontos...M50 Ontos

and 24 pics of two different M114's

If someone can tell me what's up with the vents on sides of one of the M114's, I'd appreciate it.

Looks like the Air Force got their hands on that poor scout track and turned it into something else for their own fun and games. Evil or Very Mad
Anyone know what a MIPS Antenna is? Maybe the equipment that uses' that type of antenna needed those modifications to the hull?

Reminds me of some of the holes that WGT was patching up on some of the SWAT vehicles they were rebuilding.

Thanks for the new pictures Chris!

Hell yeah,....I'm ALWAYS ready !!! Mr. Green Rolling Eyes

Nice detail shots.
Thanks. Now I would love to get interior shots of USMC# 226855.

I would love to get some pics of the rumored 2nd Ontos in El Monte (which is not on display). Specifically USMC #'s and any markings.

Roy,

MIPS, One thing come to mind, Radar. Looks like this M114 was set up for some sort of mobile radar set or maybe an emmiter to simulate something. That vented box structure looks like an AC unit to keep stuff cool (Electronics). Muffler is most likely an APU. Might have been used to simulate SAM sites at Nellis for Red Flag exercises, M114 would be pretty useful being tracked out in the Nevada desert. A bunch would have become available about when Red Flag started getting off the ground. Just a guess.

Not picture related, but I was listening to a radio story about wildfires in Southern California, and remembered the Littlefield collection is in that general area. Anything to report to the befuddled masses?

The wildfires were 400-500 miles to the south of Portola Valley so no real danger, no.

As Rikard pointed out, no. While wildfires can occur anywhere, Northern California in general is not subject to the seasonal phenomena of Santa Ana winds, that combination of super strength, super dry, super hot winds coming off the desert to the east of us (that they dont have) that drives these fires so ferociously and makes them so dangerous (and nearly impossible to fight, as this one was). In fact, as regards NoCal and the Pacific NW, the wind was coming IN from the ocean (moist air) passing in circular fashion around and over the deserts (losing that moisture, and out over SoCal). Pretty typical of this pattern on many occasions.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...a_Ana_wind

(Notice the influence of the mountains in all this, they channel the winds right over us, see the image in the Wikipedia article)

The Cedar Fire of '03 was also in mid-late October.

I have experienced this difference in weather between SoCal and Nocal first hand. I was in the US on business in Janurary, started off in Vegas, cool but very, very dry. Then spent the weekend in the bay area, and visited Jacques Ponytrax Ranch and the collection, where the temperatures had plumeted to freezing, and I mean freezing! And then on the Monday I went down to the Greater Los Angeles area where it was pleasantly warm and sunny (21 degrees celsius). In fact when I drove to the Chino museum, I could have stopped and bought Strawberries straight from the field.........

By the way Jacques collection is stunning, Kudos to him and his team

Mike Green was doing the tour, but as I was the only Brit I had to do the piece on the Conquerer!
