M60A3's in Stearns KY
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi everyone,

In my never ending quest to document all surviving M60's Wink I took this picture the other day at the Wilburn K. Ross American Legion Post 115 and thought I'd share it. In the forground is SN 2310A and behind her is 2411A. I thought it was pretty cool that they managed to acquire two tanks. They also have a towed 155 howitzer.

These tanks were originally destined to be placed in front of the County Court House in Whitley City but I was told some nerveous individuals didn't like the idea of a cannon aimed at the library Rolling Eyes .

Joe, Small world. My Grandfather worked for the Stearns Coal & Lumber Co. back in the 1930's. My dad was born at one of their coal camps called Worley, Ky. Worley is gone but the site is within the boundaries of Big South Fork Nat'l Recreation Area.

Mark,

It is beautiful country up there. For you Railroad fans Stearns has a scenic railroad you can ride that takes you all through the hills. It's right down the road from the tanks. I would have never found these two based on the TACOM list. What's nice about small towns is if you ask where the "Tank" is just about everyone can guide you there. If I am not in a rush I take the back roads instead of the Interstates, makes for much more interesting scenery.
