My pic quality doesn't measure up (new computer, still diddling with settings and software), but Stoopy posted a warning about "engine overheating". Well, a 'Stoopy Warning' is something I take as more of a challenge so I loaded up an ant-sey Marine Colonel at Phu Bai with a bee in his bonnet about getting to Khe Sanh soonest and firewalled the throttles to induce a failure to see what I could do about it....

I ignored warning sounds and ominous terminal engine death rattles until they quit about 25 nautical miles west of Hue/Phu Bai (at about 6,000')...then put it half flaps (don't go full, you can preserve airspeed and more manuverability...full will limit your choices faster than you want...only go full when you are reallycommitted), corkscrewed down a bit, selected the best groomed dirt road (probably QL-598 or 599 from period maps) using the "Golden Wings Retro" version of the area (with Baptistes' SEA Mesh) and executed a "deadstick" landing near an abandoned French Plantation. Co-pilot was already on the horn for a pickup since this was definitely a "contested area" and we had high value PAX on board (though not to me since it was his fault we were down there in the first place! Evil or Very Mad ).

Good deadstick handling characteristics, but you better watch the palm trees! Wink
