So...lesson in carrying a camera even when you think you won't be doing any "tank spotting".....Monday, on my way to Flughafen Tegel in Berlin I happened to pass this Soviet monument near the Brandenburg Gate replete with two T-34's (in an inexplicable color). Probably familiar to some of you guys who did tours in Germany (or maybe not, since it was in the East). I didn't take pics since I was sans camera, but here's a Dutch website with the place featured:

I was also surprized to notice a fairly nondescript building down the street before this with a large image of Lenin glaring down so even before I came upon this I realized I was in the "east". Didn't expect that to survive the reunification, really.

This is probably already in the register, but I can confirm, nothing has moved at least....

The Tiergarten "Sowjetischen Ehrenmahl" (with the tanks) was on the "right" side of the wall, in West-Berlin. The Treptow "Sowjetischen Ehrenmahl" however was in the east. Smile

It was that kindly face of Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov that persuaded me I must have been in the east...he was only a few hundred meters down the street on the side of a building. His countenance was not comforting. Rolling Eyes

I have some pics from a trip in Berlin and there was in 2006 a large statue of Karl Marx in the East side of the city. I also noticed that there were small eagles that may come from the Nazi period, only the swatiskas were removed but the eagles were still there.. Regarding the Tiergarten Soviet monument (with the 2 T-34/76 m1943, which are listed in my T-34/76 register..), it seems that there was a debate about removing it or not.. I don't have more info about this..
And yes, when travelling, never forget your camera !!
