Can anyone ID this turret trainer? ;)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

What, no takers?

Okay, here's a clue (perhaps an obvious one) - it is a US turret trainer... I'll also tell you it is NOT an M26 Pershing turret trainer - the "M 26" sign is part of the museum's designation scheme...

I agree that it is not a M26, sight and co-axe opennings are wrong.

Looking at the position of the gunner's sight openning and the location of the openning for the co-axe gun, maybe a M4 Sherman turret?

This old scout's wild guess!

Nope, not any kind of M4 Sherman, M10 or M26 Pershing. But it is from WWII.

Ding! Ding!

It is an M6 heavy tank turret trainer. I'll admit I was hoping Bob would get this one since that is one of his favorites...

Well I stumbled on this thread late but I question that. The M6 had a 3" with a 37mm coax. I don't see how you could have a turret trainer that didn't have both guns. Also why a turret trainer for a tank that never made it out of test. It may have bee some kind of turret mockup (maybe for a 90mm or the 105mm version that was proposed) but not a turret trainer.

I was thinking it may be an M36 turret trainer

Well, except for the co-ax 37mm gun the mantlet looks right - particularly the sight on the left-side.

The placard didnt have much more info...

I've been meaning to get down there. Looks like I'll have to plan a trip and see what they have on that

Boy, Did I ever luck out! That was such a wild guess I hesitated to post it Mr. Green Awhile back someone posted a link to a site with WW2 tank drawings. I went there and scrolled through all the tank drawings. M-6 was all I could come up with.

The funny thing is, my first thought was M6, then I thought "naaaw, not enough of them around to warrant a turret trainer" and I even went as far as looking through the TM but could not find anything similar at a quick glance... Gut instinct, sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. Confused
