For a long time I've heard rumors about pillbox installments in the Russian far east. Obsolete tanks were sent on a final journey to end their service as pillbox installations along the Chinese border, Kamchatka penisula and on the Kuril islands.

I've seen picture proof of installments of JS and T-34/85 series tanks but there has been rumor of KV's as well, among them the ultra rare KV-2. As I see it the pillbox installations of Russia, and as we've seen earlier in Bulgaria, are a major previously untapped source for WW2 armor in general and rare WW2 armor in particular.

Man I wish I had the money so I could go look for these "treasures" and get them into hands that would preserve them.

Not Far East, and not KV-2.
It's KV-2 turret mockup on the IS-2M hull, somewhere near Severodvinsk

Ok, that would be nice to see a picture of. I've seen pictures of IS- series tanks on the Chinese border and on the Kurils.

good book on the subject "Tank Turret Fortifications" by Neil Short at Amazon or other places
