The ''ACAV shield'' on the Dutch YPR's have indeed sliding plates for the vision blocks. Most of the times its closed. The YPR's don't have the gun shield for the .50, only the round cupola.

The problem with Vietnam era vision block covers was the lack of knowledge on the part of the individuals who mounted the two side plates. If it was done at a depot, the sliding cover plates were installed. If the side plates were removed by crewmen who were transfering them from one vehicle to another, they would forgot to install the vision block covers before bolting the side plates down. My second ACAV had a set of those plates, but they were not mounted in the slides. They were just laying over the opennings. I never got around to unbolting the side plates and correctly installing them.

Here is a shot of my office on my 2nd ACAV. The gap is large, it looks like the Dutch took the trouble to cover it up.
