Couple M60's
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi everyone,

Here are two M60's I photo'd during my last road trip.

First is an M60 from Kingsport TN located in front of the TN ARNG Armory of the Squadron HQ's, 2/278 CAV. Serial number 78. Sorry, no RN, typical of early M60's.

The other is of an M60A3 SN 2402A. This tank is listed in the AFV register as being in Gate City VA. It is actually on HWY 72 between Dungannon and Gate City and is the Dungannon tank listing. The confusion is that the American Legion from Gate City is signed for this tank but she is a memorial for Scott County VA. To much paint to get the RN.

Joe,
FYI I was able to confirm M60s in Roslindale MA and in Clifton Park NY off the TACOM list using google map's streetview:

maps.google.com/maps?f...iwloc=addr

maps.google.com/maps?f...iwloc=addr

I am trying to find other tanks I can confirm similarly.

Neil,

Aren't the Roslindale MA and Clifton NY tanks the Dorchester MA (42.292396, -71.095322) and Half Moon NY (42.837415, -73.753324) listings in the TACOM register?

Yes, sorry, Roslindale is the correct address for Dorchester; and Clifton Park is the correct address for Half Moon. Both were previously unconfirmed.

Yes it is,

Unfortunately many locations are in the "Hinterlands" of the U.S. , or at least what Google and the other mapping sites think so. Your lucky if you get a grainy view of the town you looking for, let alone find the town Sad .

Hi, Mark:

In 1962 they told us the road wheels on the M-60 were of magnesium, but I guess aluminum made more sense. All I know is that the ribbed aluminum or magnesium roadwheels were a bitch on the washrack, with the ribs diverting the water, where on the M-48, you could just slosh the stream from the hose, and the water spun round the inside of the rim, taking all the leaf debris and Fort Knox red mud right off.

Yeah, that's a goofy-looking fifty, all right.

Good times,
Russ, CIA
