Post subject: Headset and $%^&*( Vista

Okay, I have the Vista SP1 and so far everything seems to be more stable.
I'm about to get adventurous and see if I can get some of the stuff that wouldn't work before to work now.

My headphones are something I'm lost without, both for gaming and music.
I have a pair of SpeedLink Medusa 5.1 Surround Headphones.
I only use them in stereo config and they do actually work in Vista.
But only under certain conditions:-

Every time I plug them in I have to re-download and re-install the drivers for them.
Every time I unplug them I have to re-download and re-install the drivers for my soundcard (X-Fi Music).

I use a USB2 connector and port, and I've tried all of them.
Any ideas?

Other than those involving small arms fire.
Or larger arms fire.

I have a suggestion, Follow these 3 steps and you WILL get your sound setup working again.

First: Go trashing through the house for the disc marked Windows XP.

Second: Once you've located that, Insert the disc into your disc drive.

Third: If the disc does not prompt a reboot, reboot the computer manually and the disc should take over from there.

Congradulations you've now "upgraded" your computer to XP Mr. Green

Feel free at this point to start reinstalling any programs you usually use.

You'll find after installing all sound and video drivers that everything again will be nice as pie.

As for your Vista disc it still has some uses. It can be used as a coaster for your favorite beverage or, an excellent "house frisbee" to whip at the kids.

Good Luck!

I am always glad to help. Wink

lol

Yes but, much as I detest Vista, I want to fix it without having to buy XP again as well as avoid small arms fire..
(My old disc is trashed unfortunately)

Ironically the one thing that runs really well in Vista is the music software I use. If it wasn't for that I'd buy XP again. If 'Reason' ran in Linux, I'd even do that.

I was having the same problem with the XFI Extreme Gamer in XP. They have also released it for VISTA. I did check and there is a new driver (Mar 14 08) I downloaded and installed it for my card and the problems went away. (digital i/o detection problem)

See if this will work for you.

Did the driver help...

Did try it Bizzy, but haven't had a chance to check the headphones using it yet.
Will get back to ya.
Hoping to try it all over the weekend.
