Well, shame on you Hoppa for hijacking poor gunslingers thread! And he was just startng to progress, too.....lol. Just kiddin'. What the heck...hope he won't mind.....

Cripes man, your problem is so dang strange I'd go for the reinstall option. I think this is the third program in a week that you've had some mystical unusual strange weird problem with. In this case it sounds like the video card is having trouble dealing with the characters as mipmaps, are your gauges fuzzy too? Or is it just the characters? Since there's no telling what registry entries CFS3 makes, just copying it over form another drive is a crap shoot. I'd definitely go for the uninstall/reinstall option....and check video driver updates too.

Hold on...waaaaaiiit a minute....does this happen ONLY in multiplayer you say? If you go to Quick Combat and shoot up a few planes, does it happen?

upon getting a new hard drive I transferred this,,,FS9 and another game over to it from C drive,,,,,,could maybe something in the transfer gone wonky?????,,,,,after all,,,,,those big files took quite awhile to transfer.......

Hoppa..your problem is with moving CFS3 from where it was installed to a new hard drive, when you first installed CFS3 it was registered in your Windows registry file, when you move programs like CFS3 that depend on directx and other windows utilities from one drive to another it causes problems from the registry level. Windows will track where you have moved the files to but the system registry isn't as smart or forgiving. Uninstall CFS3 from where it is now, delete all the folders that are left and re-install it to the new location.

Hmmmm....quiet in here all of sudden. Could mean any one of 3 things happened.....

Gunslinger's or Hoppa's systems blew up entirely.....

Problem fixed....

Nothing worked and it's still the same....

I hope it's option 2.

Here I am...
I was "out of the loop" for some time. Didn't have time to do much testing (or playing, for what matters) and so didn't have any news.
I've tried some tweaks but it seems things won't improve much beyond the point I've stated before.
Well, I'll try the "Quality" tweak suggested above. As for the nvidia drivers, it's 6.14.10.5216.
I'm shy of changing drivers as last time I did it, on a different machine and video card, I had to reformat the PC. If that's the problem, I can live with the actual performance Mr. Green

I have a few questions.

Is your processor 64 bit? Does it have Hyper Thread? If yes to either that could be your issue. A 32 bit program running on a 64 bit chip is asking for trouble. Also if HT is enabled it could be an issue.

Have you also checked your system bios to ensure that you are using the correct bus for your video card? You never stated whether it was PCIx or PCI or AGP, if it is using the wrong bus for the card type there is your issue. To resolve that you may need to search for updated drivers for you motherboard, or a bios update. Before doing that I suggest researching more and checking the settings mentioned.

It helps to know exactly what hardware, including chip designations.
IE: AMD x64 Athlon Operton 2800+

All your suggestions for tweaking CFS3 are good but has anyone thought of looking at the system and/or whats running on his puter? How big is the hard drive? if it's maxed out full and not been defragged then that is a possability, add to that..how big is the swap file? and the one that I see the most..."Is your puter overheating?" how big is the power supply?..the minimum recommended for a PIV is 450 watts..then there are the usual questions..."what is running in the background? are you using a memory hog like Norton Utilities or Norton Commander? do you have applications that are in your start up like Office or other applications running. Does your motherboard have an onboard video chip?..is it disabled in bios? Is the AGP and not the PCI slot set as the primary in bios? if your vid card is 8X compliant is the AGP slot set to AGP8x in bios? the list goes on and on lol..
post up your system specs with mobo make/model and a list of everything that msconfig shows is running in startup and I will see if I can help ya tweak your system. Also get a utility like the Asus Probe utility which shows all the voltages and temperatures for your PC. You can make all the tweaks in the world to CFS3 or any other software..but if your puter is not running well the game will also not run well.

Not a long post - hey I'm glad gunslinger is back!

Looking through the history, the biggest performance boosts for gunslinger came from non-CFS3 changes. Remember, Flight sims ask more from your system than any other type of program and will show any 'weak spots' first. So although the system is reputed to be healthy it's worth double and triple-checking.

The question that has been inthe back of my mind all this time is, in your Device Manager, do you have ANY yellow question marks or disabled devices? Those thingies will keep XP a little busier than normal esp.with DirectX tasks.

My machine is a PIV, so a 32 bit machine.
The HD is not even half full and defragged three times a week.
The video card is in it's proper AGP slot. I'll check the bios for acceleration settings, after all if the video memory settings were off mark, so could be the AGP one.
I don't have yellow marks.
The system is run with all "accessories" turned off when I'm running CFS3.
No antivirus, no firewall, no anything

Hey!

I just installed CFS 3...played 1 and 2 without problems. Got a AMD 3400+
1024ram and radeon 9800pro. All others games (incl. Battlefield2) runs great. But not CFS3.

I try all resoulutions from max to lowest detailsetting and it goes the same. Studders like hell. Frame is nice but it seems like there is something else..just a studder every second.

I should be able to run this game but no sir---i have no custom planes or other stuff..plain stock planes.

Seems like i have the same problems. I have a p3 900 and it ran the game better than this one...strange!!!! (same audiocard, creative live 1024).

Is it that the game getting old and can't handle faster computers?
