Saumur "behind the fence" : storage and spare parts
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Saumur "behind the fence" : storage and spare parts

Hello,

very recently updated on his Webshot account, these are photos from the Saumur Museum, taken by a very good friend. He took them in April.
These albums show the vast majority of the tanks and spare parts stored outside and which can only be seen "behind the fence". These are all private albums which will not appear on the albums list. If you find any mistake or can help to identify some vehicles, turrets or parts, please leave a comment.

Here are the albums :

These ones show the vehicles which are stored in 5 zones outside the museum buildings :

Spare parts, turrets, tracks, main guns etc.. and some artillery !!

Thanks for showing the pics P-O! Looks like not a whole lot has changed since we visited, except for maybe a few items.

FYI, the French armored car behind the building is the Crotale carrier or APC variant, as we identified it before.

I've seen that they moved and repainted the T-54B which was close to the Chinese Type 653A TRV and the M48 AVLB. The Panther Ausf. G got some work too.

For the vehicle identified as "Crotale APC", I'm not sure it is. Here is a photo of the real vehicle with the missiles and radar, which shows several differences :

Here is a photo of the vehicle at Saumur :

Hi Folks!

Okay, got me then! I dunno what it is!

That vehicle has me stumped also. Looked through my collection of clippings and books and I didn't find anything that looks like that vehicle.

Could it be a proto-type?

No spot report this time. Sad
Sgt, Scouts out!

I'm thinking prototype too - particularly with that ad-hoc looking driver's station. I almost want to say I have seen it before, but I may just be thinking of the Colonial Marines APC from Aliens Wink

Close... its one of the Panhard M4 prototypes.

Incidentally the previous image Hotchkiss Sanitätspanzer Kurz is incorrect - its a Mörserträger Kurz

Jim,

many thanks for your help, as usual. Maybe there are other mistakes?
Could you try to identify the various unknown turrets (unknown to me..) in the spare parts, turrets, tracks gallery please?

P-O

Many thanks again, Jim.

Any ideas for the following ones ?

(definitely not a Panther turret..)

(the one beside the Wolverine turret, which seems to be French..)

That, I am almost sure is one of the ACRA test turrets. I think it was the one mounted on the M47. I'm still sifting through my stuff to locate a reference for it.
