Spanish training maneuvers : M113 recovered by Iveco truck
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

What a great idea! I'd never have thought of that. I wonder if the US Army has tried that?

Hi Folks!

Interesting M113! Looks like it has a bulldozer blade, don't I don't see a system for lowering it to the ground.

I wonder what the cargo rating of that truck is? The setup looks like it maybe close to max for that truck if not overloading it.

Thanks for the link/pictures P-O.

Well, if you read the comments below the photos, you'll see that the M-113 is described as a "TOA (Transporte Oruga Acorazado)", which means something like "Tracked Armored Transport".

Maybe the piece of steel is not a dozer blade but more likely a system to destroy barricades and obstacles

NO NO NO...

It's....

1st Generation STRYKER PROTOTYPE PROVES TO BE FAR SUPERIOR TO THE OBSCENELY OUTDATED M113 APC which is mistakenly referred to as the "GAVIN" by certian uninformed liberal media sources and an uninformed 'THINK TANK' which has displayed a total lack of a coherent original thought process and knows nothing about tanks, unless it is the one that is full of SEWAGE...which is usually buried in the back yard...... Pedro Luis Laborda, who took the photos from the recovery of the M113, explained me this :

"The vehicles of the pictures belong to UZAPC 12 “Unidad de Zapadores 12 (M-113) and GL XII “Grupo Logístico XII (IVECO "Astra"), these two military units belong to BRIAC "Guadarrama" XII “Brigada de Infantería Acorazada Guadarrama XII (Brigade of Armoured Infantry Guadarrama XII)

(Unidad de Zapadores 12 - Unit of Sappers 12)

(Grupo Logístico XII - XII Logistical Group)

The vehicles M-113 in Spain TOA (Transporte de Orugas Acorazado) is denominated, in English, Transport Armoured Caterpillar.

In the Spanish army, armoured TOA (M-113) and BMR with pushing shovel belong to engineers' units.

The Spanish Army, uses the system VEMPAR on the transport IVECO "Astra" (8 x 8 ) + (6 x 6 ), IVECO "Eurotrakker" (8 x 8 ) + (6 x 6 ) and Pegaso 3055 / 7323, including, tow with system VEMPAR.

Vehicles and tows also exist VEMPAR, in versions cisterns and transports of containers, etc."

This could maybe help you, that's not really my domain..

The Belgian army uses the same system, we know it as amplirol. Here it's been used on Volvo N10 with trailer or on IVECO's Eurotracker 8 wheelers (the same as in Spain). The same truck can be used to transport containers or water cisterns or even a complete fuelstation.

Different truck but same system is in use with the NLD army.

Standard container / flatrack dimensions. It is a nice system when you have the european roadnetwork. In off road situations its a different story Mr. Green .

Seen it done with what was left of a Bradley after an IED strike. It was melted down with the 25mm pointing straight up. PLS (Palletized Load System). At our camp all the catastophic IED Victims were parked next to our area out back, away from the Battalions. Usually were M1114's and M1151's. They were loaded up on a PLS pallet and tarped off after Bio Hazmat cleaned them up and certain items were removed. Went out with the convoys at night.

During the big 2002/03 build up in Kuwait before Cobra II kicked off (NOT Shock and Awe) the PLS system proved invaluble. 3rd ACR had a lot of their stuff moved by the UK loggies from the port to the forward staging areas because they did not have enough trucks authorized by MTOE compared to a Division. The big cutbacks that drove all the new MTOES came back to haunt us. The idea that the FSB Commander could "Flex" his assets to support the Battalions was good in peacetime but sucked in reality, How can you Flex when all the Battalions are screaming for assets. A lot of stuff was left in the Kuwaiti desert because of lack of transport at Battalion level. Some really amazing stuff was done with what they had though. All those cuts across the board later came back and bit us when things drug on, Funny who get's the blame for not being prepared.

Hello Joe,
Is this bio Hazmat team only in warzones or also when an accident during exercises happens? And is this a dedicated team or are they formed from personnel in the unit when needed?

This because years and years ago a YPR collided with one one of our tanks and there were two serious wounded. The next day I and some others were assigned to clean it and hose the interior with water.

regards
