Nice Specimen (M551A1)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

It's a purty one alright. The flotation barrier covers look to be like a fabrication...too angular. The original rubbery ones don't do well on display what with the sun and dry rot and all.

No mine plate, but maybe they operated them that way for potential airborne ops for weight consideration purposes.

WOW,....

Pity its a POR 'resto'

(Paint Over Rust)

Airborne..hahahahaha

Bragg does (or did..) have a duster and a few other vehicles around the AGR area. Actually in the parking lot area near 2nd Bde HQ (ACRC). I spent a couple of weeks down there back in 2004, courtesy of the 'Coffee & Donut' Laughing Division.

It was pretty much painted over, from what I saw of it the Sheridan in 2004. There was also an M44 and M56 at the museum.

They have a Sheridan indoors in the Airborne Museum too. The real deal...note the floatation barrier covers. The one outdoors must have some kind of bondo job.

It has one 'shortcoming' that I notice as an ex turret mech (45P). Note the big gap between the gun tube and the tube's dust cover? That means this originally had the M81 (modified) gun tube with the bore evacuator and when it was changed to an M81E1 tube they didn't change the dust cover. I know, picky, picky! Rolling Eyes

Good eye, Mark. Hey, I just shot 'em, I didn't wrench 'em! Laughing
