Tanks from Louisville
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Tanks from Louisville

Hi everyone,

Had to be in Louisville Monday and took advantage of it by taking these pictures.

First group is from Bowman Field

M47 SN 6735

M47 SN 6960

M114

No SN or RN for the Lingle

M103A2 SN 765

The SN for the M103A2 is located on the rear hull and deck just like the M48A5/M60 Series. She is located off 31W in Shiveley Park in Louisville.

This M60A3 is located at the National Guard Armory on Crittenden Drive in Louisville, Former M60A1 SN 4289.

M60A3 SN 2331A RN JJ04F5

I also took this picture in Dontos's neck of the woods, Vine Grove KY. I think it's pretty nice with the "Snake" in the background.

M60A3 SN 2533A

Hello Joe,
Are the M47s former Italian or not?

Regards,
Lesley

Judging by the rainguards, yes, they are Italian. There are a few original US M47s left in the US, but most are returnees- many M47s in the US were scrapped ages ago (or ended up on ranges).

Lesley,

As far as I could tell yes, both had what was left of a rebuild plate on the rear similar to the Italian rebuilds, but were all chewed up or missing. If you look at the range finder you'll notice they have movable covers that flip up. I don't think this was a US modification.

Was having a problem yesterday (mainly, it looked funny and couldn't upload), but seems to be OK now.

Don't spook me like that!

Heres what I get now....

IMPORTANT! Photobucket.com problem read here: Last night Photobucket.com DNS at register.com was hacked by malicious people that are trying to compromise our business! We are in no way affiliated with such bad deeds and cooperate with photobucket in capturing these individuals. They have pointed the domain Photobucket.com to an account hosted on our systems!
We have blocked that and photobucked techs have restored the domain pointing to its original location! ALL account information and pictures on photobucket.com are OK, please have patience! Unfortunately the complete DNS replication usually takes 24-48 hours and during this time caches DNS records might still point to us! The normal operation of Photobucket is restored and as soon as the replication is complete there should be no further such issues!

I have an old sectional painters pole I modified with a bracket and triggering mechanism. Many places don't want you climbing on their tanks so this allows me to get shots of the top and hidden areas. Makes great calender pictures too if the conditions are right.

I noticed that some of these didn't have the SN's documented/ verified in the AFV register and in the M103's case it was listed as either M103 or M48. Since I took the pictures I'd thought I'd share.

Don,
That Vine Grove VFW is a pretty high end operation, I wasn't expecting the Chopper either but it sure made a nice picture.

Nice idea - I hadn't thought of that. How can you tell you have the tank in the frame?

Now which is worse - being in the area and not saying hello or planning on being in the area and not letting folks know that you wouldn't be stopping to say hello when the plans changed?
