M60A3 arrives safely in New Lenox Il today - (July 10)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I'd like a picture of the tow truck. Looks like a nice rig! Shocked

By request... it took 3 of these to get the job done. And 2.5 hours to get it off the trailer, over a ditch and onto the plynth. A total of about 75 feet at .05 miles per hour. What better way to spend an afternoon?

Oops! Sorry about the serial number... I should have known. I'll see what I can do...

For those keeping score at home, according to an article in the local paper

"The tank had most recently served in Afghanistan and had been living with a Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Laurel, Miss.. That post lost its lease and had to move, forcing it to give up the M60".

Is that what is called a MERC paint scheme? What time period or theater of operation did this tank see then?

Nice pictures by the way.

From what I can see in the photos it looks like a NATO three-color scheme. This was green/blaclk/brown. The MERDC (Mobility Equipment Research and Development Command) schemes were four-colors to a standardized pattern book. MERDC replaced the plain OD and several experimental schemes in the early 70's and the NATO scheme superceded that. MERDC was meant for alkyid enamels and the NATO scheme uses CARC (Chemical Agent Resistant Coating).

Thanks Gary. I didn't realize there were different types of paints used.

I learned something new today.

Been occupied for a while.

Based on pictures I have of the Laurel MS tank, I am 99 % sure this is the same one.

"The tank had most recently served in Afghanistan.........

Only way that is possible is if the Pakistani Army took the few we gave/loaned them in Somalia back home and used them on the border.
