The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

As Alexey Kalinin said, it's not a true Panzer 38 (t) Ausf.F. More looks like PzKpfw 38(t) Ausf.E-F turret on the modifited Strv. M/41 hull. I know already 3 simitar vehicles:

- First on the Dennis photos;
- Second in Panzermuseum Munster;
- Third in french private collection.

About restoration. Looks not bad, but i see lots of minor errors. It's not good for quality restoration...

Something doesnt quite add up here... If it's an Strv M/41, how is it that it served with 25th Panzer Regiment and was recovered from Hungary???

Restored Panzer among military vehicles at show

The Panzer now
How it once looked For 40 years a rare German tank that went into action against the Russians during the Second World War lay buried on a farm in Hungary.

Now it is destined to star in war films.

Fully restored, the Panzer 38t model F will roar into life once again at The War and Peace Show in Kent later this month.

For the past five years the restoration work has dominated the life of Stephen Lamonby, of Hampshire, whose company Plus Film Ltd, has provided military vehicles for films such as Saving Private Ryan, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin and Charlotte Gray.

“It’s one of only four Panzers of this type still surviving and the only one in the UK, said Mr Lamonby.

“These tanks spearheaded the major attack on the USSR in 1941, resulting in the capture of hundreds of thousands of Red Army troops. They finally advanced on Moscow as part of the German Third Tank Group.

The Panzer was discovered 15 years ago. Its turret, still bearing the original number, 524, was located in a nearby scrapyard.

The style of the numbering indicates it belonged to the 25th Panzer Regiment of the 7th Panzer Division, headed by the legendary Rommel during the earlier stages of the war.

Designed to attack at speed, it carried a 37mm gun and two ZB37 machine guns.
“It will certainly be used for film work, said Mr Lamonby.

“These days directors demand complete authenticity.

“In the early days of war films they would paint a cross on an American Sherman tank and pretend it was a German model. You can’t get away with that today. Audiences are too well informed.

Other rare military vehicles expected at the War and Peace Show include a Churchill flail tank used to beat a path through minefields, the only wartime Sherman Beach Armoured Recovery Vehicle (BARV) still running, a Centurion BARV, which saw action in Iraq and on the Falklands and a captured German Panther tank used by the French Army after the Second World War.

The War and Peace Show takes place at the Hop Farm, Paddock Wood, from Wednesday to Sunday, July 16-20.

From Alexey Kalinin:

"Well, it's definitely a 38(t) turret, 38(t) hull and 38(t) chassis.
It may be dug up in Hungary – Magyars got a lot of such tanks and employed them through the war.

Nevertheless, this tank has a plenty of details which are fake or probably got from a Sweden vehicle, so don’t use this WA for modelling.

Here’s a few.
1. Driver aiming ring mount is fake
2. Gear hatch hinges have 4 rivets each. Only 2 should be.
3. Front hull bolts doesn’t have rings for a MG leather/tarpaulin covers
4. Crew hatch wrong – two wrong hinges
5. Radio antenna mount is probably faked – too small and simplified
6. Tow cable is stored on hooks without leather belts (it’s belted itself though)
7. The engine hatches has “Late G set of rivets (remember, the tank pretends to be a E/F type)
8. The exhaust has wrong size and shape
9. The ventilator armor disk is equipped with a strange small steel cap and has not even a ring for a normal big cover cap.

And, finally, it’s definitely not a Barbarossa survivor and not a 7pz-div either. Production of F and G started after the invasion, E tanks were mostly shipped to еру newly formed 19th ad 20th pz-div., and Hungary got brand new tanks, not rebuilt ones.

I suppose this tank is an original 38(t) turret with hull and chassis either original+Sweden details or just rebuilt Sweden. An excellent work, but in small details it could be more correct."

Hello Taranov

could you tell me who owns this PzKpfw 38(t) in France? I have no information about it. Thanks.
