Naval Gun Video
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I dunno... I'd have to see the armor penetration stats... 76mm was generally 1940s/1950s era state of the art for anti-tank guns. If its not going to penetrate, all rapid fire is going to do to opposing tanks is give them ringing head-aches Wink Mobility kills, rear shots, etc not withstanding of course...

And its not really the most effective anti-aircraft weapon either... You can carry a lot more ammo in a smaller weapon... More "stowed kills" as it were... And overkill for most aircraft as well - note large caliber AAA guns went out of style in the same time period...

76mm guns are most effective as A) infantry support weapons (and do you need really rapid fire for that?) and even then probably lacking compared to 90mm & 105mm guns; or B) naval applications as a multi-purpose gun. A 76 will knock through any conceivable opposing ship, can provide some AAA capability, as well as some fire support capability... But its not really great at any of the latter two roles...

Note the increasing trend towards 155mm guns for naval fire support...

Maybe the gun could be made available in 105mm? Possibly be an artillery weapon? Pretty cool to watch any way.
