The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951) Starring the 3d ACR
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Just watched The Day The Earth Stood Still and took a few pictures of the 3d ACR in action. I guess they were at Ft. Meade then in 2nd Army. Bumper numbers were "2A3C".

I always liked the scene of the M24s drifting sideways in a high speed turn coming out of the post gates.

Those 3rd Armored Cav insignia must be the largest ever authorized on a tank.

It's a tough life in tanks - these are situations I was never warned about when I signed up.

I guess being heatrayed is even worse than being swung around and thrown miles by the Incredible Hulk...

Hmmmm, lets see:

Attacked by Heat Ray = being horribly melted to a glob in a micro second. (Instant Death !!)

Attacked by The Hulk = Tons of armor protection crushing you, then getting slammed around when tank is hurled for miles. (This would REALLY suck, as one would possibly linger with critical injuries & no hope of extraction...)

I'll take the catagory "Heat Ray for $1000,...Alex" Laughing Cool Mr. Green

BUT WAIT!!

Didn't Godzilla have that 'radioactive breath' blast?? Used against M24's or M47's of the JDF? (just another way for a tanker to 'buy the farm', in a Sci-Fi adventure.

I always thought they were M-41's or Type 61 tanks.

It's been years since I've seen a Godzilla movie! Crying or Very sad

Dontos - it really is a risky career in tanks isn't it! Even recently I heard a news report of a crew being lost in a destroyed tank (something about an Ironman, I think it said...).
