Duster and M110's
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I had to go to Bradford Arkansas yesterday so I used the opportunity to photo these.

M110 at VFW Post 1991, Jonesboro Arkansas, Confirmed SN 171 on left front tow lug.

The M60 has been posted before by me, SN 1332, but I now have RN 9B1757. Notice something missing on the M110.

M110 in Walnut Ridge Arkansas. Location correction, She is in front of the Lawrence County Court House at 315 West Main Street. The VFW Post 11300 is signed for it. Could not confirm SN and all the people with badges around convinced me I shouldn't try to scrape any paint off Confused .

M42 at American Legion Post 64 in Heber Springs Arkansas.

The M47 listed in the AFV register at VFW Post 2242 in Paragould Arkansas is no longer there.

36.1019900, -90.456850

I was told it was moved to another town, Ash Flat was mentioned but no one knew for sure. I have another road trip planned soon, by then I hope to have my new "Improved" camera pole complete.

Hmm... Any idea how long ago the Paragould M47 moved? The TACOM Registry has an M47 listed in Ash Flat, it may have been moved there some years ago...

Neil,

I called a Gentlemen about 10 minutes ago from the VFW (Wrote down their POC numbers when I was there). He said that the Tank in Ash Flat is the same one and it was moved over a year ago. Hope that solves the mystery.

Joe:

Are you certain on the M60's RN? Could it be 9B4737? Also, any numerology on the M42?

Kurt,

You are correct, it should be 9B4737. I even logged it that way in my records.

As far as the M42, no luck. She did have one of those rebuild checkerboard plates welded to the right rear hull, but had nothing stamped on it, just blank. Also had some partial bumper numbers. ??NG 2-174 AD for a unit and D-103 for vehicle. I believe She last served with the Ohio Guard based on those numbers.

On M41s and M42s those plates should always have the serials in the uppermost box. It doesn't take much paint to obliterate them, though.

OHNG were the last users of M42s (and the only ones for a long time), so I suspect most of those around the country came from there.

I had some interest, so I dug around for this link:

West Palm Beach Fl :M42 Duster

In the early 70's, my father was assigned here (West Palm Beach) as an ADA advisor to the ARNG. They had Dusters then.

Looks like some Good Old Boy saw the spade on the back and figured it would work great to push manure with his John Deere Mr. Green

Someone finally noticed.

That and the hydraulic rams are high demand around here. Who knows. The AR Guard out West used to have M110's before switching to MLRS. Before that M40's.

BTW, do you have a pic of the M110 tow lug SN? Usually the SN is "BMYXXX" or something similar...

Hmm... That is different from where I have seen prior M110 SNs actually.... I'll have to try to pull up a picture...

BTW, any chance you have any details on where the M47 is in Ash Flat?

Whew, got banned from here for a while, clicked too fast I guess. Thanks for the quick response Bob.

Neil,

I have no Idea where the Ash Flat M47 is. I used to pass through there on the way to the Ozarks (Lake Norfolk/Bull Shoals) but I would turn off before passing through most of the town. Last time was over a year ago.

Didn't know to look there for the M110 SN's, IIRC it's not in the ID guide Piney put out. I will be traveling to Newport again and will pass through Jonesboro, so I'll check it. On the way back I'll swing up to Ash Flat and look for the M47. I'll also check the Walnut Ridge M110 for a SN since it's on the way back home from there if it's not to late.
