BBC News - Miniature tanks roll into London
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Reporter is probably one of those wisenheimer hippies who sits around all day listening to that punk rock music and bad-mouthin' his country! Evil or Very Mad

And how he managed to call a Russian frigate with one gun per turret a "battleship" is a measure of how well informed he is on his subject matter. Rolling Eyes

He'd do well to just ask the people at the displays what they have to show us and then shutup. Razz

I think its an admirable hobby for kids to take up, being able to concentrate on a kit and create a scale replica of the full scale vehicle, surely thats to be encouraged.

But the media coverage is predictable. I own WW2 wheeled military vehicles and when ever they are covered for local or statewide media stories, they will always go for the superficial "boys with their toys" angle.

Pity the King Tiger didn't manage to roll over the reporter's foot.

I agree, and it builds towards a better understanding of mechanical things a long with a sense of pride of constructing something.

Anyone know the name of the company that made the model of the Tiger I? It was the second tank shown and is extremely detailed. Guy said it took 2 years to build it and detail it as shown. Said an English outfit made it.

The Tiger II, or King Tiger, is in 1/6 scale and comes as a kit from Armortek. www.armortek.co.uk/

The Tiger I you ask about is a one-fourth size model using GRP (glass reinforced plastic, a British term for Fibreglas), and is custom-made by Mark I Tank Company. www.mark-1-tank.co.uk/

I think these guys have loads of fun. Laughing

From the size differential between the T1 and the T2 in the video, I'm not so sure (the T2 is obviously larger scale). The T2 looks to be 1:4 scale and the T1 1:6 (or smaller).

Perhaps you're right, JG. It may be that it's been so long since I've viewed the video that I disremember, or perhaps I simply misunderestimated the relative sizes of the tanks. (YES! George Bush LIVES!) Mr. Green

Bob, you did reverse them, but being semi-intelligent I figured it out! Thanks for the links. Come on Lottery!
