STUCK ! !
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Not possible, for I served in the Army of the White Star. Subdued markings on vehicles is something I never saw during my service. Wink

However, I notice that one crewman is wearing a black beret. When MG Starry was installed as installation cmdr. of Ft. Knox in '73 (succeeding MG Desobry), he decreed that armor personnel were authorized to wear berets at his post. It looks like the beret has the insignia of a Specialist on the white plastic background thingy that you used to see on the uniform raincoat, which was how it was to be displayed if a beret was your thing.

This might be elsewhere, though, as I don't recognize the unit marking on the searchlight and the guys wear the patch of an armored division on their left shoulders, so maybe this is Germany?

That crease in the shovel-bearers shirt is impressive!

Gotta' love them tanker boots! Not gettin' down in the mud with those babies, no sirree!

Please, lets not talk about tanker boots. A pair of those caused me more headaches than they are worth. Graduation day from AOB 1-88 and 2LT Begnaud shows up in his brand new tanker boots which he was under the impression that upon completion of the course he was allowed to wear. Found out completion meant graduation, therefore said LT had to go dig out of a U-haul trailer his regular boots or he would not be allowed to take part in said ceremony and would also get a royal butt-chewing from a certain colonel. Found my old boots, wiped them down and the rest is history.

Gloves, oh-so-creased shirt....I'm calling "Zoolander" (male model)! Obviously not a "real tanker". Laughing

Didn't have any hard-and-fast rules about tanker boots around Thuh' Knox when I was there. Had a pair myself (still got 'em). Didn't wear 'em that much, though. "Laced zippers" were not cool, however. Except in VN.

Fort Knox,

6th Cavalry, the Unicorn on the searchlight gives it away. They were eventually re-flagged to 12th CAV. Now they are 16th CAV. Just a name, reality is they were 2nd Armor Training Brigade.

Fellow with Beret looks like Cadre, the tanker boots are modified the "Knox Way" with "Stacks" made from old car tire tread. Was popular with the drills when I went through. Said it kept you feet warmer when standing/marching in the winter. The rest look like students, notice no unit crests on the caps. That's my "CSI" analysis anyway Laughing .

Looking close at the original, the beret wearing guy (W/ 'German' Tanker Boots) Is a Spec 5. It looks like Armor Center patch,.....perhaps he is 'AJ Sgt' (TC)?? His Fatigue trousers have a subtle crease.

Others could be trainees.....

Just guessing
