Camp Roberts #4: M59 & M114
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Anyone know the significance of "PWDMGVRC"? I think it was also (albeit very faded) on the side of the XM723. I dont think its Welsh Wink

Splendid series of photos, Neil,

thanks for sharing. Somebody did run amok with paint and stencils there, I wish they would do something about painting the whole vehicle instead of applying bogus bumper numbers. Sad

Yes, the SdKfz 251 started out as an OT-810 and did they ever catch the perpetrators who stole the commander's cupola off that "Lingle"? Laughing

I think the M114 bumper numbers are:
7th Army, 3d ACR, 2nd Squadron, E Troop.

If it turns up on a private residence somewhere outside of Ft. Bliss, mum's the work. Mum. Wink

Probably one of the many that "Donated" it's cupola for the M901 ITV program.

Most likely was supposed to be a hard target before being rescued.

Speaking of "Lingles", haven't heard from Roy here in a while.

He's out there, Joe. Checked on him today. He'll rejoin us when he can. I miss him, too.

I noticed the track on the M41 and M59 are similar. Could they be the same?

Post subject: M41 series running gear

The M41 76mm tank running gear (which was essentially the same as that on the M24 tank) was used on a number of vehicles: M8A1 CT, M19 40mm SPAAG, M37 105mm SPH, M42 40mm SPAAG, M44 155mm SPH, M52 105mm SPH, M59 AIV, and M75 AIV. It was, however, distinctly different from that used on the M18 76mm GMV/M39 AUV.
