This turret cant be original right? M108?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Nah, it was a brief trip, I didnt get a chance to poke around a whole lot - unfortunately I missed the bigger batteries... Basically the only info I had at the time - like 10 years ago now - was Emanual Lewis' book.

However, armed with little more than that book I was able to find the Endicott era fortifications near Wilmington and Beaufort. I found the former - Fort Caswell - simply by driving along the coast and getting pointed to it by a gas station clerk. It was now the NC Baptist Assembly camp! The one near Beaufort was much more of an adventure, finally ended up on a dirt road leading to a bunch of trailers near the beach and there it was. How they supplied that fortification is beyond me...

Yeah, fortifications used to be my thing. There's some good ones on Sullivans Island near Charleston, including a 16 inch battery that isnt always mentioned in the reference works... The two casemates are now houses Wink

We have a group that goes to different Harbor Defenses each year, next month it will be Boston. I've been doing this 25 years now. Ray Lewis is a member. Corregidor is always the fun trip.

Neil, you must have missed the 4-16inch batteries and the 3-6 inch batteries all in good shape minus armament. Neil I believe what you saw was a AA battery it is falling into the sea, did you happen to notice the seawall built with DUKW's, I have lots of maps for all US Coastal fortifications 1900-1945 if someone needs one or two.

Jeff I have maps of Fort Story, Monroe and all the Harbor Defenses of the Chesapeake showing all the Gun emplacements if you want I can scan some of them and send to your email address if you have any use for them....BTW if anyone is interested this is the site for US Fortifications
www.cdsg.org/

I've climbed on the Fort Casey Ramparts....during my time on Whidbey Island.

Back on topic, there's a picture in Hunnicutt's "Sheridan" (p207) of the T195 with those side skirts, although the hull on the Hampton is different. P 208 shows the T195E1, which looks more like the Hampton, but without the skirts. And then next to that is a pic of the T196E1 155 with the skirts. Those were the only two pics I could find with any side skirts

Mint volumes of "Bradley" can be had for under sixty bucks on abebooks.com, if you're interested- could be a great beginning for the "Jeff Button Military Library". Cool

Cheers,

You might check the Ft Useless Library. They might have Hunnicutt. I remember them having a pretty good technical section. They had some books on Liberty Ships I wish I could find again.

There's one aspect of the vehicle's armament that has been overlooked here.

The gun is a 152mm gun/launcher that fires the Shilellagh IR guided missile. It is the same weapon that was fitted on the M-60A2 and the M-551 Sheridan.

I don't know if that will help you uncover the vehicle's actual designation.

No, sorry, it's not. It's a 105MM HOW.

As Tanker2010 said, 'fraid not. I don't know anything about 105 How construction, but the instant tipoff's that it's not in the M81 gun/launcher family is the chamber/breech assembly and no keyway down the rifling. There are other noticiable differences as well.
