That there turret on its side looks different.

It doesn't seem deep enough and the aperture for the main armament looks wider than normal. The left/top side in the view is normal level with the middle of the gunners sight aperture.

Less than "normal" lens maybe (but bigger than fisheye)? The whole thing looks a little distorted, with the near field looking bigger and the far field looking smaller (relatively) than it should, to my aged eyes.

These are just a few of a rather large series of 'aged' color photos on the construction of an M60A1. I took pictures of them so the perspective is a little out of 'wack'.

I'll check the 'originals' and see if there is a difference.

I think there is some lens distortion. Look at the back end of the trailer in the first picture. The truck bed looks a bit bowed and the wheel doesn't look 'right' I imagine itr is a wide angle lens and there is a little 'fisheye' effect. Could be the other one was taken with the camera rotated so the fisheye is verticle

In some of the photos, the subject area is rather large, so it may have been taken with fisheye lens to get 'the big picture'.

There was no information associated with the photo series, so I'm not sure about any sort of background information. Just thought it was a neat series showing tank construction.

Very nice,

All those M60A1 pictures are of mid 70's production during the big build up. Notice the turrets have the thicker sides near the ring and the hulls only have two heavy tie down eyes (GEN 4). They also all come with the T142 track with replaceable pads.

The M60A2's are a little harder to pin down. From what I can tell they have the CBSS bulge so they have to at least be post 1973. They also look to be GEN 4 hulls which would make them a good candidate for the batch that utilized the M60A1E1 turrets that were stored, potentially pushing them back to 1975.

Is that an A2 or the A1E1 in that last picture?

Sweet stuff by the way!

Jeff,

M60A2.

An M60A1E1 would utilize the M60 hull with only two shock absorbers per side. None were ever produced, The M60A1E1 turrets ending up being pulled from storage and used to make new M60A2's. Only versions were the pilots and they didn't have the CBSS bulge.

Oh well, I only actually have two, so ......

Guess I might need to actually get the entire series and scan them instead of taking a quick photo of them.

Stay tuned.... Cool
