Camp Shelby
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I'll be on the road the this week,

I am scheduled to be at Camp Shelby/ Hattiesburg area near the end of the week. If anyone has any requests for photo's of anything let me know. I plan on taking a lot of pictures if the weather co-operates, right now they are calling for T-storms while I'm there Neutral .

Joe,
Would definitely appreciate the following:

M42? Sherman flamethrower (apparently has a fake barrel extension)
M2A2 light tank - one of just four surviving M2 lights...

But frankly any & pics (and particularly serial numbers!) would be appreciated from the museum, including (in addition to the above):
M1 Abrams
M5A1 Stuart
M7 Priest
M41 Walker Bulldog
M48 Patton
M56 Scorpion

And if possible, the 2 M26 Pershings in museum storage...

I'm sure you already have all the M60s on your list Wink

I will also be on the road this weekend/next week and am aiming to get to the Jackson Barracks Military Museum & National World War II Museum in the Big Easy Razz

I think those two museums will take up my AFV time in New Orleans, although I will try to confirm/deny the supposed 2 M5 Stuarts in nearby Chalmette (I am doubtful they exist - a call ahead should confirm that). Dont think I'll be doing any serious AFV road-tripping in the bayou Wink

Actually, no I don't , As much time as I spent there in 2004 I never documented them.

That M42 Flame Sherman does not have a fake barrel, so to speak, the barrel is real for a flame projector. You can still see the igniter inside the tube.

If all goes well I'll be back to post this weekend.

Joe, Just take a picture of everything! Then we can just chose what we want. This would be easiest for everyone except you. Good idea, eh?

I had many photos of the memorial park taken back in 2003/2004 when, I to, spent several months at Camp Shelby. I had them posted on the old DG, but alas, I have long since lost them to a computer crash, back in 2006.

The remember posting photos of the M56, M114, M5A1, M4A2 flamethrower, and the M2A2. I remember an M60 and M1 but never took shots of them.

There is also an M8 Armored Car inside on display, as memory serves me.

Joe, I'd like the M114 and also the Sheridan. (I think they have one.) With your permission I'll put them in my Flickr groups.

Sounds like I will be taking quite a few pictures.

No problem, I have invested in an XP Notebook to download all my memory cards when they fill up, and just to be safe, I'm bringing a portable external hard drive (90 GB). I also have installed a 110 volt power converter in my vehicle to keep things charged up while I'm driving. Trying out some ideas that will support my eventual goal of documenting every M60 in the lower 48 states (Don't laugh).

Neil,

My last info on the two M60A3's in the DRMO lot was they were re-located and put on display in the state. One was supposedly at the Hattiesburg African-American Heritage museum. If all goes well I'll have a accurate list of all that's there.

Mark,

The M114 is parked under a "Sky Crane" and looks pretty good. I don't remember any M551. There were an awful lot of vacant pads back in 2005 at the museum though. Hopefully they are now filled.

here is a picture of 1 of the 2 Pershins stored at Camp Shelby. Infortunately, I didn't find any picture of the second one.

I remember seeing pic of that one, thought it was at Ft. Hood...obviously I remember wrong.

P-O: Nice shot, LARC's don't exactly grow on trees, either.
