Jackson Barracks #3: M20, M75 & armored dozer
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Looks like a D7 CAT to me,

Wonder what's up with the home made armor. The art work is definitely over the top.

Is that an F15 in the background?

Not quite certain... The Stuart had a shackle on it, and I think the M75 had been moved intentionally... But for all I know that's where the M20 came to rest... Like I said, the museum isnt technically open...

LA NG did a great job with museums at one time prior to Kat...but the other great one they have is in Alexander which has a much larger outdoor display...and in better shape...of course along with the little 5 ID park on Fort Polk which has a bunch of outdoor displays too..love to see the post kat pictures though of the Barracks...

I wrote the museum and asked about the bulldozer, and they told me the history of it...

The D-7 was up armored during Desert Shield and was used by the 256th Engineer Brigade. The dozer was brought back after Operation Desert Storm. The painting was originally done in theater by a member of the Louisiana National Guard, and has been over painted by the same person several times since.

Stan Amerski (Curator Jackson Barracks Military Museum)

Wikipedia has a good article about the newer armor kits purchased for D7's and D9's. Look under "armored bulldozers".

Apparently the desert terrain allows use of armor on the bulldozers, and the jungle clearing in SE Asia did not. This Military.com article describes the difficulties faced by jungle busters.

In the second photo is a hard-top Gamma Goat. Never seen that before.

Dennis,
Thanks for the info. Any chance you could write back and inquire about the status of the FT-17, and an Iraqi MT-LB that was previously seen there?

Thanks,

Neil
