Misc Abrams Photos
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Notice the extra plates of steel welded on? They do that during testing to simulate combat weight. My guess is Aberdeen. Must be an M1E1. Tube looks new. Has the retainers on the sprocket so must have been an M1IP take before the tube was added.

That looks like the test bed for the 120mm with added plates to simulate the newer armour package being developed.

No Bustle rack or fittings for one, Early small sponson boxes, 105mm gun Mantle, and M1 headlamp guards.

Definitely an M1 converted.

BTW, we had "Paddle Wheels on our early M1A1's at Riley. We eventually disposed of them.

I remember seeing the M1E1 being tested at Ft Hood in 85-86. The vehicle I saw, had the german style 'Leo' track and of course all the add on armor plates on the turret and hull. I used to have some photos of it, but they are MIA.

On the M1E1, I don't recall the bustle rack (as we didn't have one at that time) or the larger 'M1A1' turret sponson boxes, so I can't say if this isn't similiar to the one I saw at Ft Hood.
