T118 CEV prototype
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I dug this photo up today.

Its the T118 CEV prototype. As one can tell, it is based off of the T95 med tank program.

The T118E1 CEV prototype became the M728 CEV

To really confuse the whole issue (which seems to be the norm with the T95 tank program) I found this entry as it relates to T118 Pilot 2.

T95E2 pilot # 1 (RN 9B1048)
July 1959 document states "Hull returned to D.A. for rebuild as CEV T118 pilot 2.

T118 pilot 2 is clearly RN 9B2028. This means there is some sort of reassignment of RN's during the T95 test program, which really screws up definitive tracking in the absence of RN quoted documentation.

My 'T95' headache seems to be coming back....

I found the above picture in an Army document about Vietnam. I think they were under the impression that the photo was an M728 CEV.

The July 1959 Data indicates there are 3 T118 pilot vehicles built

T95E3 pilot#1(RN 9B1050) becomes AVLB T118 Pilot#1(RN UKN)
T95E2 pilot#1(RN 9B1048) becomes CEV T118 Pilot#2(RN 9B2028)
T95 pilot#1(RN 9B1043) becomes CEV T118 Pilot#3(RN UKN)

Guess I need to do more research to find out any redesignated RN's....

(That headache is growing....

Hey Mark,

That is an M2 in that cupola.

That's the AAI model 108 cupola. It was designed to replace the troublesome M1 cupola in the M48A1/2's. First seen on an M48A2, it was then installed in the T54E2 turret tested on an M48 hull. It's shape (T54E2) was the basis for the M60A1 turret. When they rolled out M60 PV-1 it had the cupola installed temporarily until the M19 was completed and installed with the M85.

Don,

Your gonna have to do some Quincy/CSI work to figure out the T95 mess.

Good luck
