a movie question
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: a movie question

I was watching the 1939 version of "The Four Feathers" last night and noticed the military advisor was Col. David Sterling. Does anyone know if this is the same Sterling that founded the LRDG? Seems logical given the time period and location

Very unlikely,

since Sir David Stirling, DSO OBE, was a Lieutenant Colonel when he founded "L" Detachment, Special Air Service in 1941. Cool

BTW, current British Army term of endearment for the SAS is Special Authors Service... Laughing

Sorry it's not the same officer.

David Stirling was not in the Army at that time (1939), or had just joined, and was a Subaltern (2nd LT) upon qualification. He was then part of Layforce in the Middle East and then went to form the initial SAS together with Jock Lewes an Australian............the rest is history...........more detail is here........

BRIAN
