Fort Lewis #7: Museum M3A1 Stuart, M3 HT, M8 Greyhound The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Something odd about the numerology of that M3A1 tank. S/N 217 would be a riveted hull with a welded octagonal turret. That has a D58133 turret on what appears to be a welded gasser hull. That would make it S/N 5523 - 7722 or 7933 - 10432. I've normally seen M3 serial stampings that were much larger characters, such that they were in two rows, like

34
Was this on the front lug? The reliable numbers are on the rear because I think the transmission covers could be removed and replaced.

Hey, no fair! There's nothing in the SN guide about rear tow lugs on a Stuart! Foul!
Okay, this came off the front right tow lug. Couldn't find anything on the differential housing (too much paint) and the left front tow lug was broken off.
