Post subject: Catania, Museo dello sbarco

I am going to start posting something about artillery in Italy and Switzerland.

Let's start from the bottom (of the Peninsula!), in Catania, Sicily, there is a little, cute museum dedicated to the landing and battles in 1943.
Officila website

They don't have that much heavy hardware, but cool uniforms and, all in all, a very modern display.

It wasn't a planned visit, so I was without my trusty digital reflex, a simple point-and-shoot camera was all I had. Pictures aren't allowed on the inside anyway.

On the outside there is a 25 pdr:

Inside the halls they have among other things, a 2.0 cm Flak 38 and a 75/27 mod 1911. I wasn't able to resist and I broke the rules, quickly taking a few pictures of the 75 mm Mr. Green

This field gun was a french design (Deport), adopted by the italian army in 1911, after a long selection process and even after the army already quite a bunch of 75 mm from Krupp in 1906. At one point the top brass realized the french was more up to date compared to the german design they've got just a few years before.

The gun was built under license in Italy and was the main field piece during WW I... Unfortunately it still was the main field gun in italian army during WW II Rolling Eyes
