Motts Military Museum Part 2-Heavy Metal and Boats
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Apologies for the delay.

V-100 Commando. Anyone know where ID's are on these?


LVTH-6. This is one of the most impressively large AFV's I've ever seen. I couldn't find the listed r/n anywhere, as by the time I'd got to this my camera was overheating (@$#$##$@# black casing) so I was shooting as fast as I could)


Higgins Boat LCVP PA-36-7. Not strictly an AFV, but it's rare enough I think it deserves mention.


LVTH-6 as seen from the walkway next to the Higgins Boat.


These were stored behind the Higgins Boat; I recognise the M47 Patton Turret Trainer and the truck (although I can't name the truck OTOH) but the boat's a mystery to me.)


Artillery Row, including a pair of Soviet-made howitzers captured during Desert Storm. Almost as rare as the PaK 40's I found down in Cincy!


There were a pair of these small guns flanking the artillery display, anyone know what they are? There wasn't any mention of them on the signs.


M1916 Artillery Caisson


This was parked on a side road, I assume it's used for traveling displays


A talkative pair of Starlings seemed to have taken up residence in the Sheridan

That's all I've got; I'd say the museum is well-worth a visit, and there's a veritable treasure-trove of artifacts inside as well, although no photography is allowed inside.

The small gun looks like a french anti-tank gun, from the '30. Name should be 25 mm SA 37 APX. I've seen one on Saumur and another one in Brussels

I agree, I also _think_ its a French 25mm...

BTW, I have found that you can typically find the model and/or serial number of most artillery pieces stamped somewhere on the breech.

Mmhm, I've noticed that one the 3 inch M5's I've photographed. It's a little annoying when they're obscured by layers upon layers of paint, though Evil or Very Mad

Widow donates WWII shell, museum shuts down

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A military museum near Columbus got more than it bargained for when the widow of a World War II vet tried to donate an artillery shell.

Officials evacuated about 60 people from six businesses and temporarily shut down a road Thursday as firefighters, police and a bomb squad checked out the 18-inch long shell.

Warren Motts, proprietor of the Motts Military Museum in Groveport in suburban Columbus, called firefighters after the 90-year-old woman dropped off the shell.

The woman said her deceased husband had been given the shell as appreciation for his service during World War II and she thought the museum might like it.

Markings on the shell said it was safe but Motts said he just wanted to be sure. Authorities confirmed there was no danger.

Motts said the museum will definitely keep the shell.

Not to hijack the thread, but I had something similar happen last summer. We had a multifamily garage sale and the leftovers were dropped off at Goodwill. I didn't know one of the kids had accidentally picked up a dummy grenade I had in the store room and put it in the box with many other items. The next night, there on the nightly news, was a big article done on a bomb found at Goodwill Industries, with bomb squad and everything. First time I have owned up to it! Laughing
