Troy, Ohio M60A3 Patton Info Requested
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Has anyone got anything on this vehicle besides what's in the register? My little brother has a baseball game in Troy on friday, and I figure if I can get some idea where it is I might try to go with everyone so I can find it. The map programs are turning up nothing, and the listed address is in the middle of nowhere. If anyone's got anything on this, please advise, thanks!

Well I just did a Google map search on the address (2880 Celina Rd, Troy Ohio) and it pointed to an address 'Near Troy Ohio' That is actually in St Marys Ohio. Looking back at the Register and there is an American Legion listed with an M60 at 2880 Celina Rd, St Marys Ohio.

So I wonder if they are the same tank

The Tank in Troy is not an A3 it is a straight M60 with a non ballistic hull.
The VFW post 5436 is located at, 2220 Lefevre Rd, Troy. On Google Maps if you go east of the marker about 650 feet the building is on the south side of the road about 500-600 feet from the road. The tank is in that grassy "island" at the east end of the parking lot. I was there last summer in the afternoon on a weekday and a fellow came out of the building and asked me if I wanted to get in the tank when I said yes he went back in and got the keys and let me in and told me just to bring the keys to him when I was done.
If you are coming south down I-75 you will go right past the M60A3 listed in Sidney Ohio That one is just a few yards south of exit94. There is also a deuce and a half displayed there.
Bob's right about the Celina Rd. address, being in St Marys

I hadn't thought of that, but the only thing with that is that Troy and St Marys aren't really all that close to each other. Given that M60A3 AAD 2470A had a similar situation makes it likely, though Confused

I'm very interested in that M60 in Troy,

If she is truly a Non-Ballistic hull the SN listed (20) would disprove many written documents that only the pilots and first 15 were made that way. Mike, by any chance was "Training Tank Only" welded across the front when you seen her?

About these off locations in the TACOM register. Over the last couple of months I tracked down most of the M60's in Mississippi. Quite a few of the addresses listed were homes of the VFW/ALP members. The actual locations of the tanks would be in other towns. Same goes for tanks signed for by Counties. The county seat will be the address given but the tank could be anywhere within the county. The Caddo AL M60 is a good example of that being listed in Moulton AL. On some of my hunts I asked numerous locals for a tanks location to be told there was none around, then found it outside the city/town limits since the ALP/VFW used a PO box for an address. Usually the best source of info is the police department or post office, they always have been very helpful.

When Neil completes the latest version of the register you'll see how many of the Mississippi tanks will have changed. There even are SN's that have been listed wrong. Holly Springs MS was supposed to have an M60A3 SN 2488A but instead had an M60 SN 763. 2488A was in Brookhaven which is quite a way off. Funny thing is the Brookhaven tank is actually in the TACOM register as Bouge Chitto, one of the VFW's members home address.

Did a lot of driving in some really backwoods areas and got some interesting looks from the locals to find some of these tanks. But it was fun.

I found it, with a rather loud "duh!" as it should have been obvious.

I'll see if I can tag along on friday and stop by to take pictures. Joe, is there anything you'd want me to look out for (assuming Mike hasn't found it yet) when/if I go there?

Also, a question, does it matter if I abbreviate serial number as s/n? I've noticed you and most of the guys on here use SN, and I'm just carrying over what I learned from aviation stuff. If you'd prefer that I switch I will.

Joe,
It does have "training tank only" welded on the front of the hull. I have, or had, photos of it around here I hope I didn't delete them for some stupid reason. I'll try to find them and post a few here.
