There was a National Guard armory in Carlisle PA that had an Easy 8 Sherman in front of it. When I was a kid we discovered that the bottom escape hatch had just been wired shut. Needless to say, we were quick to gain access to it. I spent many hours playing inside that secret clubhouse. We used to be able to elevate the gun up and down using the hand crank. People used to come up to it and think it was motorized since the top hatches were all welded shut.

I am curious if anyone has any current pics of this particular tank. If any one is interested, I have some old pics of the interior I took back in the day. I would need to find them and scan them though.

Most likely the Sherman at 1-18 Field Artillery, Pennsylvania ARNG Armory, 504 Cavalry Rd.

It's been a long time since I lived in Carlisle. I will try to find those pics and put them up on here.
