Oakland County, Michigan APC - Can anyone identify?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I'll give a couple of hints...

1) Its a fairly new design - last 3 or 4 years. New company - not GD, or BAE, or anyone like that...
2) It hasnt gone anywhere (in terms of customer), except for Turkey... And apparently Oakland County...

FNSS Pars?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FNSS_Pars

Though I must confess I only found this by checking Wiki. Reminds me a bit of the APC From Aliens, though.

Which didn't have ground clearance for squat. And the pics I see of this thing don't indicate much more either. If suspension height is non-adjustable, it doesn't take a lot imagination to see this getting high-centered or hung up at the front as soon as the doing gets even a little rough.

Wow! that was taken on Woodward Ave. during the Woodward Cruise. The Redcoat Tavern is in the background. I havent eaten there in years.

Doesnt surprise me that they have one. There are some wealthy communities in the county, they need to show that they are protecting the community. Assuming this is their replacement, there is/was also a V100 variant and an older Greyhound police variant in the county too. City of Detroit has a V100 thingy. What is that older Air Force armored truck (GM based?)? Well, the city I live in has or had one, and either Wayne or Oakland county used to PR that there armored truck at quite a few of the car shows....

Only one I havent seen used in the area is a real track. Didnt Doug K. or someone post some pics of a police M113 a while back?

Well, glad they have it, a waste of their money, where are they going to use something like that... yeah, there are drug houses and barricaded gunmen that live in Beverly Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Berkley, Birhmingham, Troy, Auburn Hills...
Pontiac could use it but it would be overkill...
I am sure it is on loan to other agencies...

Shawn,

The Macomb County Sherriff has an M-577, they bring it out to the North Gratiot cruise every year.

I don't know about Oakland County Sheriff needing one but Oakland P.D. in California could use about a dozen of them that's for sure!!

For those of us who haven't figured out which vehicle it actually is how 'bout enlightning us? At one point I was wondering if it was one of teh 14 Bisons that are listed as being assigned to the National Guard. My guess is that it was some vehicle made surplus after testing at TACOM

Its a General Purpose Vehicles (GPV) Captain 8x8

GPV doesnt appear to be marketing this specific vehicle anymore on their website, although it still appears on the front page
www.gpv.com/

Here's an archive of more info on it
web.archive.org/web/20...ts/8x8.htm
