Post subject: Artillery Range for Civilians?

This is an incredibly silly question but I'm very curious.

Are there any artillery ranges where civilians can pay to fire artillery for fun in the US or Canada?

I know artillery rounds are very expensive so I'm certainly not inquiring about the use of contemporary ammunition. Still, a flash, a bang and a corresponding thump with smoke and fire would be nice. I would also surmise that a crew would be provided to allow you to attempt various gun procedures under controlled circumstances.

Thanks.

Hi Boeman! Hi Folks!

I don't have clue. I would try searching the www for reinactment organizations. I have seen a number of cannons on the History channel shows. Also search the History channel shows for credits. Gunney has had a number of heavy weapons on his show that they fired. My guess would be that there are a few out there some where in the US.

Good Luck!

The N-SSA has a gigantic Civil War shooting match twice a year in Winchester VA. Among the weapons fired in competition are mortars and field guns, both black poweder muzzle loaders.

Thanks for the responses everyone!

Here's to hoping I'll find something with artillery dating from 1914 and up (but of course, willing to settle for American Civil War era cannnons)!
