The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I think its the T59 - Large vertical front plate & both hatches are at the front with engine behind - one of these vehicles was possibly reworked into the T117 with the commanders hatch behind the engine.

I heard back from the museum. They said it was "M113 serial number 3 and made of steel". I thanked him and said it was possible it was originally T117. _________________ "TUMBLEWEED"

It's clearly not an M113. A "steel" M113 is by definition a T117 (M113 was aluminum). See Hunnicutt's Bradley, page 78 & 80. But SN 3 is helpful! Neil

Hmmm.....

FMC working in conjunction with the Kaiser Aluminium and Chemical Corporation, constructed the T113 with an aluminium hull and a Continental air-cooled engine. These two combined together provided the lightest weight configuration and afforded the vehicle with a superior ballistic capability. At the same time a conventional steel hull vehicle was built, powered by a water-cooled Packard engine. This particular APC was derived from the earlier M59 and was built because it represented a low risk option.
