ID Help Needed/more from the Ordnance Museum inactive files
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

"German prime mover?"

"Tatra TL 9"

Hey thanks for this one Jim! I like artillery type tractors and this one had me puzzled since it somewhat resembled Soviet vehicles but with differences...

Hmmm... Could it also be referred to as a "Unic Kegresse P 107 Semi-Tracked Light Prime Mover"?

NO! Remove that idea from your head immediately and go wash your mouth out with soap! Wink

Cool

Regarding the following "Prime movers?" image:

(Posted by: Neil_Baumgardner)

Jim, I don't think that these two tracked vehicles actually are Cleveland / Cletrac MG-1, which has rubber tracks:

The shown vehicles seem to have cast track links, so I believe we're looking at two Raupenschlepper Ost chassis, w/o cabs and rear bodywork, but perhaps with wooden boxes above their engines.

Especially the last view could be THE clue...

Hope this helps.

Post subject: French "semi-chenillé" Unic TU-1

Regarding the "French prime mover":

(Posted by: Neil_Baumgardner)

That's indeed an Unic TU1. AFAIK, only two examples of the 236 produced ones have survived:

1) an almost 100% original one belonging to a private collector in France;

2) a chassis with genuine front body and fake rear bodywork, which had been restored for the defunct "Victory Memorial Museum" in Arlon, Belgium. Of course, this exhibit is nowadays on display at the "WWII Victory Museum" in Auburn, Indiana, USA:

(Source of these pix)

BTW, the same collection also has an Unic P107 - see 'source'-link above!

Important note: the TU1 once at APG cannot be one of the two survivors, IMHO.

Hope this helps.

? German prime mover
FMCV130 - Aberdeen photo A59128 - see img.photobucket.com/al...MCV130.jpg

The photograph is a product factory CKD - Artillery Tractor Praga T-9. Before the war, delivered a series to Turkey. During the war he served in the Wehrmacht as Schwerer Raupenschlepper Praga T-IX (t).

JRT

P. S.
JimWeb made a mistake, this is not a Tatra TL 9.

Neil, I hadn't seen these before. Can you read the painted-on numbers from the Shermans?

Thx,

Kurt,
I dont have the originals - they're at APG of course. You can see the same images I have by doing "view image" and expanding the image... But FWIW, I cant make out any RNs from the pics...

But I can tell you the following from the Inactive files:

MCV56 M4A2E4 Sherman 75mm Gun Medium Tank w/ experimental wide-track torsion bar suspension RN 30104306 (Hunnicutt, Sherman 247)

MCV61 M4A3 Sherman 76mm Gun Medium Tank w/ T1E4 Mine Exploder RN 30101217 (Hunnicutt, Sherman 460)

MCV62 M4 Sherman 75mm Gun Medium Tank w/ flail RN 3037333

MCV75 M4A4 Sherman, experimental mine destroyer/demolition variant fitted for spigot mortars RN 3020332

MCV77 M4A1 Sherman 75mm Gun Medium Tank RN 3038250

MCV104 M4A4 Sherman 75mm Gun Medium Tank RN 3029455

MCV159 M4A3(105) Sherman w/ T121 twin MG mount 30140446

MCV337 M4A3E1 Sherman 75mm Gun Medium Tank RN 305493??

MCV338 M4A3E3 Sherman 75mm Gun Medium Tank RN 30115071

MCV348 T33 (forrmerly M4A3E2) Sherman Flamethrower Tank RN 3083011

Would appreciate any SNs you can decipher from these.

Neil

How do you get access to these files?

AFAIK, anyone can access the files with at least some advance notice. But its on-site of course... Some (possibly all) of the RNs can from the museum inventory logs. The pictures come from the inactive files in the library file cabinets. Most files consist of a single picture such as the above. Some files will include some sort of receipt/tracking log type document.
