Rocket Sherman
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Being similar in appearance to the pipe organ type instrument commonly seen at a circus or fair.

It appears that the survivors rocket tubes are way smaller than the other. Perhaps a smaller rocket type or size?

Its a pity only one survived.

Any of these around? Side turret mount, jettisonable. Variant was also mounted on M26 and a different arrangement altogether for the M24.

There were many variations of tank mounted rocket launchers. IIRC the one shown used shorter tubes because it was meant for spin- rather than fin-stabilized 4.5-inch rockets.

That is the Engineer Armored Vehicle, in this case an M4A1 with the EAV conversion kit applied.

1) I wonder what search terms brought that photo out of the Life collection? I have tried many combinations but never got a hit on a rocket tank

2) there were a number of different rocket launchers tried on M4 series tanks. The 4.5 inch T34 "Calliope" types were the most used and the most recorded in Europe. The M17 (T40) were almost used on DDay, but the 7.2in rockets lacked accuracy. Some tanks still had the launcher welded attachments on them. In Italy some T40 "boxes" were used to mount a batch of the triple 4.5 inch tubes from P47s.
